REMARKS DURING THE VISIT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL NIGERIAN COLLEGE OF ACCOUNTANCY TO THE NAVAL HEADQUARTERS

REMARKS BY THE CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF DURING THE VISIT OF THE DIRECTOR GENERAL NIGERIAN COLLEGE OF ACCOUNTANCY TO THE NAVAL HEADQUARTERS ON 26 JULY 2021

PROTOCOL

1. I have the singular honour and privilege to, on behalf of the officers, ratings and civilian staff of the Nigerian Navy, most heartily welcome the Director General of the Nigerian College of Accountancy to the Naval Headquarters. The visit, amongst other things, would further consolidate the partnership and professional relationship between the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Nigerian Navy.

2. Indeed, the responsibility of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and particularly, the Nigerian College of Accountancy in the professional development and certification of thoroughbred accounting professionals in Nigeria cannot be overestimated. Specifically, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has been able to make both the public and private sectors appreciate the dual responsibilities reposed in the professional accountant. Pertinently, while the employer expects the accountant to act with integrity, probity, confidentiality, diligence and due care, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has been able to reinforce the need for the accountant to also act in the public interest, whilst being ethically committed to the imperatives of wider group of stakeholders without compromising independence.

3. Accordingly, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has pioneered the process of identifying and highlighting the role of accountants in an organisation including the business support function as against the well-known traditional financial bookkeeping responsibility. Accordingly, the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria’s efforts and initiatives have made it possible for accountants to delve into strategy formulation, advisory and process improvement leading to associated cost reduction as well as risk mitigation. To this end, it is expected that areas of collaboration and cooperation between the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Nigerian College of Accountancy and the Nigerian Navy would be deepened from the engagements with the Chief of Accounts and Budget and other personnel in the Branch.

4. On this note, I want to thank the Director General of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria for taking time out of his busy schedule to honour the Nigerian Navy with this visit. I am optimistic that the outcome of our discussions would be beneficial not only to both parties, but also to other professional accountants working in the public sector for the greater good of our dear country. Thank you, God bless and Onward Together.
